Last October, over the course of the month, Prof. Gianesini was invited by 3 different Italian scientific societies dedicated respectively to sclerotherapy, ulcer disease and lymphedema, in order to report on the analysis of the international guidelines that he recently directed and that has now been published in the specialist journal Phlebology Journal. Particular focus was placed on ulcer disease, a genuine scourge affecting more than 1% of our population. In light of the epidemiological spread of this condition, Prof. Gianesini concluded his presentation by calling for international multidisciplinary scientific collaboration to create appropriate information materials, addressed both to patients and to healthcare professionals. Equally essential is the need to develop a sclerotherapy practice based on scientific evidence and on adequate technical knowledge. Not least, the recommendation to produce scientific evidence on lymphatic disease using objective, validated and standardized measures, so as to provide the best possible analysis of a condition today so widespread that it has been described as “the hidden epidemic”. The complete guideline analysis document was then presented at the end of the month by Gianesini to the Asian Society for Vascular Surgery, during the annual congress held in Indonesia, as well as at the national congress of Vascular Surgery
